Deleting a Member
Archive a member so they leave day-to-day lists, while the record and its history are kept.
Overview
Deleting a member archives the record. They leave the lists you use day to day, and the profile is kept so you can still look up past subscriptions, invoices, and entitlements.
This is not a wipe. The member ID stays the same, the status becomes archived, and the time of the archive is stored. You can set the status back to active later if the person returns, instead of creating a duplicate.
Before you archive
Archiving the profile does not replace the other things you may need to stop:
- Subscriptions. Cancel or let them end if the person should no longer be billed or hold the entitlements on that product. See Manage Subscriptions.
- Invites. Revoke a pending invite if they have not accepted it yet, so the email cannot still be used. See Inviting Members.
- A linked account. Unlink the account if you only need to disconnect their login and keep the member active. Unlinking is separate from archiving.
Archive the member
Open the member in the admin dashboard and delete them. Confirm you have the right person: archiving is easy to undo by setting the status back to active, but it is still the wrong record if you picked a duplicate.
The same action is the Archive Member endpoint. A successful response confirms the ID and that it was deleted from active use.
If they come back
Find the archived record and set the status to active. Do not create a new member for the same person if the old record is still there. A second profile splits their invoice history, entitlements, and any external ID you were matching on.
Permanent Deletion
Archiving keeps the member profile data intact. To request a full permanent deletion of a member profile, please contact support. For GDPR-related enquiries, email support@members.dev with GDPR Request in the subject line.
