About Members.dev
Members.dev is a new membership management platform, designed from the ground up to be flexible. No two membership programs are the same, so we built Members.dev as a simple, powerful and customizable system to support associations of all sizes and types. Advantages of Members.dev include:
- Customization: From custom fields and forms on membership profiles to fully configurable membership products, and support for multiple sub-organizations, Members.dev is guaranteed to support your complex needs.
- User experience: Members.dev's admin dashboard and customer portal are beautifully designed and intuitive. If you want to present a modern, professional, and intuitive interface to your users, Members.dev is for you.
- Versatility: Members.dev handles the complexity of membership management, without forcing you to adapt your membership program to the platform. As a result, we can support a wider range of needs, such as hotel or frequent flyer programs, multi-location membership, certification and permitting, and more.
- Benefit tracking: Membership management becomes complex when tracking benefits. For example, tracking usage against an annual plan with 10 guest passes, or a monthly plan which entitles the member to 1 guest pass per month. Members.dev allows you to do this easily.
- Excellent support: Members.dev is a small, tightly knit company - which means you get dedicated support direct from the team behind the software. We'll get on a call, help you solve problems, and build custom solutions to assist you.
- Enterprise features: Members.dev includes customizable roles, permissions, audit tracking, SSO and SAML integration, and other features large organizations need. This is particularly useful for multi-chapter organizations, or organizations with multiple hierarchies.
About Wild Apricot
Wild Apricot is an established all-in-one membership management platform for associations or clubs that want membership, communications, and payments in one product. It is a "closed loop" system, meaning that all features are built into the system. This makes it convenient for some organizations, but less flexible for others with needs or workflows that do not fit the Wild Apricot template.
- Website builder + member portal: Wild Apricot includes a drag-and-drop site builder with pre-built themes. It includes 'gadgets' to drop in content like event calendars, member directories, donation buttons - all without coding.
- Mobile apps: Wild Apricot provides two apps: the admin app allowing staff to manage their database and check in attendees at events, and the member app which includes a digital membership card and networking with other members.
- Event management: Event features focus on traditional association needs, including event registration, waitlists, guest registration, and calendar integration on your site.
- Closed Ecosystem: While it offers a WordPress plugin and a documented API, Wild Apricot is primarily designed to be your entire tech stack. It is best suited for anyone who wants to avoid managing multiple separate tools and can accept the limitations of a closed ecosystem.

How customizable are Members.dev and Wild Apricot?
Both platforms are designed to adapt to unique membership structures, but they differ in how they handle data. Members.dev offers nearly unlimited flexibility with data structures; you can assign multiple addresses or emails to a single profile and group members into families, companies, or teams without rigid constraints. You can add custom fields to both profiles and products, allowing you to collect specific data (like alumni graduation years or liability waivers) at registration or checkout.
Wild Apricot provides extensive configuration through membership levels and forms but operates within a more structured framework. It is ideal for teams who want to manage everything—sites, events, and emails—inside one vendor's ecosystem. While Wild Apricot's drag-and-drop "gadgets" are faster for simple setups, they offer less flexibility for organizations that need membership logic to drive external systems.
How extendable are Members.dev and Wild Apricot?
The choice between the two depends on where you want your operational complexity to live. Members.dev is entirely accessible via API, making it a powerful choice if you need your membership data to sync seamlessly with a custom website, a proprietary app, or multiple internal third-party systems.
Wild Apricot is more of a "closed-loop" all-in-one system. It reduces the need for vendor coordination by providing its own built-in modules for events, donations, and email marketing. Any other integrations are best set up using no-code tools like Zapier or Make. While Wild Apricot offers an API, its primary strength is its native, "off-the-shelf" functionality rather than developer-led extensibility.
Can I migrate my membership data between Wild Apricot and Members.dev?
You can migrate your membership between Wild Apricot and Members.dev. Timing depends a lot on the size of your member base, how membership levels and bundled memberships are modeled, whether you rely on Wild Apricot's built-in website, events, email, ecommerce, or donation tooling, and how third-party integrations are wired.
Wild Apricot and Members.dev both support exports, and under regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the EU, you can request copies of your data to use in a migration.
Members.dev provides white-glove onboarding to any new organization. Message support@members.dev to discuss needs and begin the process.
